ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (June 22, 2010) – The US Youth Soccer Region IV Championships continued today State Farm Soccer Complex in Bernalillo, N.M. Teams have competed in more than 232 games and tomorrow's action will decide the 128 teams earning berths in quarterfinal brackets (Friday). Tomorrow's matches begin at 8 a.m. (MT) and continue throughout the day with the last matches beginning at 4 p.m.
The top 232 boys and girls US Youth Soccer teams from 14 State Associations that make up US Youth Soccer Region IV are competing for the regional title where winners of the Under-14 through Under-19 age groups earn a berth to the 2010 US Youth Soccer National Championships July 20-25, at Overland Park Soccer Complex in Overland Park, Kan.
Among the many elite teams competing this week, there are some reigning champions looking to defend their title, all looking to continue their journey to capture a national championship title.

A few highlights from today's matches...
California North Mustang Rampage Under-16 Girls are on their fourth trip to the Region IV Championships and coming off of a day one tie, the team reset their focus to put up a 2-0 win over Neusport 94 Green of Nevada. Briana Gaines opened with a 9th minute Mustang goal for the early upper hand. Looking to hold on to and extend her team's lead, Samantha Schrakamp slotted a 67th minute goal to secure the 2-0 victory.
After a tie in day one of prelims, Arizona's Under-16 Girls Sereno 94 White were looking for a win against New Mexico Rush Nike 94. Ann Andrews stepped out with a Sereno goal in the 17th minute, and Sereno netted a second in the 27th minute for the 2-0 lead. Rush cut Sereno's lead by one with a Victoria Barba goal in the 35th minute. Sereno held tight to the lead for the 2-1 final score.
Colorado Rush Nike Under-16 Girls marked their first win of the Region IV Championships this morning with an 8-1 win over Hawaii's Ka Oi Express. Colorado's Lindsey Horan secured a hat trick in the first 15 minutes of play. Mary Schwappach netted two goals in minutes 32 and 44, with one each from Helena Meijer (43:00), Jessica Clanton (57:00) and Kourtney Camy (60:00) for Colorado to up the lead to 7-0. Ka Oi's Tiana Fujimoto had the team's sole goal in the 79th minute.
Two days of play and two in the win column, that's the how the Under-16 Girls La Roca PT of Utah have started the Region IV Championships. The second win, a 12-0 score, came today against Alaska's Full Force Soccer Club. Mackenzi Harrison (3:00), London Crown (11:00), Chansi Crompton (15:00), Ryley Hanson and Stacy Bair (31:00) all scored in the first half. Taylor Ivins opened the second half with a 46th minute goal, followed by Bair a minute later and Morgan Whitfield in the 50th minute. Ivins again hit one in the 54th minute followed by goals from Samantha Swan (57:00), Brecken Holbrook (73:00) and Shaylee Petersen (78:00) for the win.
In the Under-17 Boys match of Arizona's Gilbert Arsenal and Cal South's West Coast FC the two teams played a bit of a cat and mouse game. West Coast's Dylan Seedman hit the back of the net in the 32nd minute and Gilbert's Joseph Clemente matched it in the 34th minute for the halftime tie. Juan Guitierrez put West Coast back in the lead in the 52nd minute, but West Coast tied up again with a Charles Lapose goal. The 2-2 knot remained through the end of regulation.
WSM Remix Under-17 Boys of Oregon didn't waste any time getting their first goal against Alaska's Full Force 93 with Giancarlo Barone scoring in the first minute of play. Full Force's defense held tight until the 46th minute when David Cazares scored four in a row for WSM. Jamal Abdul finished up the 6-0 WSM win with an 82nd minute goal.
Arizona's Cisco Wolverines Under-17 Boys marked their first win of the regional championships against Rush Nike 93 of Hawaii. After a tie in day one, Cisco was determined and opened with a 16th minute Kossi Lokosou goal. Cisco held onto the lead and extended with a 66th minute goal. Rush challenged the Cisco lead with a 77th minute Ikaika Matas goal, but the final 2-1 score remained for Cisco.
Two Under-17 California boys teams met in day two or preliminary matches - one from the north, TPSL Marin FC and one from the south, Real So Cal. An own goal put TPSL on the board in the 27th minute and Andrew Tussaazemaja countered for So Cal in the 36th minute. In the second half, So Cal surpassed the tie with two goals from Ericson Penate in the 47th and 80th minutes and Cory Vilchis wrapped up the So Cal 3-1 with an 85th minute goal.
