 Semifinal schedule set at 2010 US Youth Soccer Region IV Championships

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (June 25, 2010) – Carriages have turned into pumpkins for another set of teams competing at the 2010 US Youth Soccer Region IV Championships. There was a heightened sense of intensity as games kicked off at the State Farm Soccer Complex in Bernalillo, N.M., for teams were competing for one of four spots in the semifinals.

Among the quarterfinalist are six defending champions, and all but one have earned a spot in the semifinals. Here's a look at the defending champions' quarterfinal matches…

The Under-14 Girls Neusport Green of Nevada posted a first minute Lauren Kaskie goal against Oregon's THUSC Sodium. The teams battled it out, but neither team was able to complete another shot for 1-0 final score. Neusport advances to the semifinals, matched up with undefeated, Mustang Fury of Cal North.

Mustang Fury (CA-N) Under-14 Girls and Leahi 96 Premier (HI) met in today's quarterfinal match. Erika Perez netted Mustang's two goals in the 33rd and 63rd minutes for the win and advancement to the semifinals with a perfect record.

Undefeated through the Region IV Championships, Under-17 Girls Real So Cal White advance out of the quarterfinals with 3-0 victory over Neusport FC 93 Green (NV). Shanelle Simien and Jamia Fields opened with 2nd and 9th minute Real goals. Vania Robles secured Real's advancement with an 85th minute goal. Real is paired with the reigning Region IV champion and 2009-2010 National League champions, the So Cal Blues Dodge, in Saturday's semifinals.
 
The Under-17 Girls So Cal Blues Dodge will continue on the mission to retain their title of Region IV champion after today's quarterfinal win over fellow Cal South rival, San Diego Surf. The Blues took the 19th minute 1-0 lead thanks to a goal by Kathleen Gallanes. Surf held tight on defense until the Blues' Lauren Bohaboy broke out, completing a hat trick in minutes 64 through 84 for the 4-1 Blues win.

Washington's Under-14 Boys Crossfire Premier 95-McCormick will enter the semifinals undefeated after a 3-0 win over Boise Nationals Celtics of Idaho. Jillian White racked up the three Crossfire goals in the 28th, 30th and 52nd minutes.

In 2009, Cal North's Under-14 Boys Santa Clara Sporting lost the regional championship to West Coast FC. Defeating Laguna Niguel SC (CA-S) 1-0 moves Santa Clara into the semifinals and one step closer to claiming the title. The game was knotted 0-0 for until Brad Bumganer found the winning goal late in the game.

Slammers FC Under-16 Boys of Cal South took an early 2-0 lead over Idaho's Boise Nationals Premier with a 7th minute Derek Paterson goal and one from Kyle Chin in the 15th minute. Brian Vail wrapped up the 3-0 victory with a 76th minute goal. The Slammers will face WSM Premier in the semifinals.

Oregon's Under-16 Boys WSM Premier went up 1-0 over Crossfire Premier (WA) with an Enrique Esparza goal in the 18th minute. Jesse Klug countered for Crossfire in the 31st minute and Clark Phillips put WSM back in the lead in the 38th minute. Back from the half, WSM took control and netted three goals late in the game. Esparza completed a hat trick and Yanphol Patino Cardenas got one of his own past the keeper in the 78th minute. The 5-1 WSM victory advances them to the semifinals.
