Over 500 goals scored during day 2 of play LAS VEGAS (June
19, 2007) - Players enjoyed a considerably cooler climate during
this evening's games as play continues at the 2007 US Youth Soccer
Region IV Championships at the Bettye Wilson Soccer Complex and the
Kellogg Zaher Sports Complex in Las Vegas.
The third and final day of preliminary matches will begin at 7 a.m.
tomorrow. Again, games will be split between the morning and evening.
The teams continuing to the quarterfinals will enjoy a day of rest on
Thursday and quarterfinal matches will be played on Friday.
In the last 30 seconds of the second half, the Under-17 Girls Colorado
Rush Nike scored to tie the match 2-2 against the Santa Rosa United
Gold, a wildcard team from California North Youth Soccer Association.
Colorado Rush Nike beat out the defending US Youth Soccer National
Champions, the Real Colorado Nationals, in the Colorado US Youth
Soccer State Championships. Real Colorado secured a spot at regionals
as a wildcard and won tonight, 8-1, against the Alaska Rush. Both
Colorado teams also won their respective day one matches and have set
themselves up well in hopes of moving on to Friday's quarterfinals.
Nearly 30 college coaches crowded the California North and California
South face off tonight in an Under-16 girls match. The US Youth Soccer
National Championship Series continues to be an important recruiting
tool for the nation?s top collegiate coaches as the regional events
provide the type of environment to see the drive and potential in
potential student athletes. The San Diego Surf, California South, came
into the tournament as a wildcard and the Mustang Mavericks,
California North, won their state championship to earn their place in
Vegas. Both teams rose to the occasion with Mustang taking the 2-0
win.
Both Under-17 boys teams from Oregon have had a good showing in Vegas
this week winning each of their matches. The state champion ESUFC
Eagles won today against Utah's La Roca Premier, 2-0. The WSM Gunners,
Oregon's wildcard, played well against the Classic FC Cougars, a
wildcard team from New Mexico, winning 3-1. The Las Vegas heat doesn't
look to be a problem for these northern teams.

associations are competing for the US Youth Soccer Region IV
Championships, June 18-24, at Bettye Wilson Soccer Complex and Kellogg

Regional winners of the Under-14 through Under-19 brackets earn a
berth to the 2007 US Youth Soccer National Championships to be played
July 24-29, at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. |
