Champions Crowned at
2005 US Youth National Championships

ORLANDO,
FL (July 31, 2005)
– US Youth Soccer National Champions were crowned today at
Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex where the top 48 teams
in the country met to conclude the final challenge of the 2005
US Youth Soccer National Championship Series. By advancing through their state and regional
competitions the final two teams in each age group, Under-14
through Under-19 boys and girls, earned their way to play for
the National Championship of youth soccer.
Hoisting
the James P. McGuire Cup, the oldest youth sports trophy in the
country, on the 70th anniversary of the Under-19 Boys
National Championship was the Sockers FC of Illinois. At the conclusion of regulation the score was knotted at
one goal each. In
the overtime period Paul Mongillo (Sockers) played a great ball

(July 30, 2005) – What began Friday night, ended
early Saturday morning as the 7:00pm matches of the US Youth
Soccer National Championships were delayed three hours due to
severe weather.
PDA
Conquistadors (NJ) will square off against the Dallas Texans Red
87 in the Under-18 Boys National Championship final on Sunday at
after both teams earned the right to compete for the Andy Stone
Cup tonight with wins over Real Colorado National (2:0) and FC
Milwaukee (3:1) respectively. PDA scored two goals in the

ORLANDO,
FL (July 29, 2005) – The morning session of the US Youth
Soccer National Championships continued Friday with the final
day of Preliminary Round play determining Sunday’s National
finalists for nine of the twelve divisions at Disney’s Wide
World of Sports Complex.
The
PDA Wildcats (NJ) Under-17 Girls performed last second heroics
and got the needed win to advance to the National Championship
final in a 3:2 win over the Eclipse Select (IL) team looking to
repeat as National Champions (2004). At two goals each in the
second half, PDA found a hero in Elisabeth Redmond who gave her

ORLANDO, FL
(July 28, 2005) – The US Youth Soccer National
Championships continued Thursday evening with the second night
of Preliminary Round play at Disney’s Wide World of Sports
Complex. Each team played its second of three preliminary
round games looking to add another tally in their win column.
The two teams with the most points at the conclusion of
Friday’s play will advance to Sunday’s National Championship
Finals.
Tonight was an
evening of dramatics in the Under-17 girls division. The Eclipse
Select (IL), 2004 National Champions, tied a talented CASL
Spartan Elite (NC) team, 1-1. Coming out of the scoreless first
half CASL’s Casey Nogueira found the back of the net in the
81st in what was believed to be the go-ahead goal after the ball
slipped through the Eclipse keeper’s hands. The
experienced Eclipse side kept hope alive pressuring CASL’s
defense ultimately earning a penalty kick, after a foul in the
box. Lauren Switzer, U.S. Under-17 national team member and a
verbal commitment to UCLA, made the most of her opportunity and
tied the score at 1-1. CASL and Eclipse remain tied atop

ORLANDO,
FL (July 28, 2005) – The US Youth Soccer National
Championships continued early Thursday with the second day of
Preliminary Round play at Disney’s Wide World of Sports
Complex. For teams vying for a National crown, today was a
must-win situation as Sunday’s finals were on everyone’s
mind.
In the Under-18
Boys division, the PDA Conquistadors (NJ) grabbed a needed
victory with goals from Jamie Franks (26th minute) and John
Stamatis (77th minute). PDA was solid defensively as the boys
from New Jersey, including Harvard-bound defender Michael
Giammanco, shut down a talented Dallas Texan and U.S. Under-18
national team player, Lee Nguyen. Nguyen leaves tomorrow
for Northern Ireland to join his national team side in pursuit
of the Milk Cup. “I have been looking forward to
this opportunity (the National Championships) since last
year,” said Lee Nguyen (Texans). “I really wanted to

Playing for the

Under-19 boys division got off to a passionate start as each of
the regional champions took their respective fields with a

(July 26, 2005) - The 2005 US Youth Soccer National
Championships officially began today with the 48 teams competing
for national crowns in Under-14 through Under-19 age
categories gathering for the Opening Ceremonies luncheon at the
Wyndam Palace Resort and Spa.
Players,
referees, officials and administrators shared an afternoon
honoring each other’s efforts and commitment to US Youth
Soccer. The spirit of competition and the tenets of
“Play hard. Play fair. Have fun.” were echoed by each of the
