Day of National Final
|
|
By: Miguel
Well, what can I say about today? Maybe we lost,
however I think we lost to a very good team. In the last two
years we have lost to good teams, but we always find a way to
play them again and we will always win. But this weekend we
lost to a good team two times. We as a team see this and say,
“that we played our best and they played better”. We were
all down from the loss the rest of the day, but still had our
fun. Maybe we didn’t want to go and see the outlets and walk
around all day, however some people made it fun for others,
this I think makes us a different team. Knowing we lost to a
very good team but still having fun and making a positive out
of the whole thing. Maybe this was our last game being coached
by Shawn Comegys, but he will always be in our heart and mind
as a coach to me.

Our Day Off
|
|
By: Koji, Georgie, and Kris
Today was our day off due to our extraordinary
talents on the soccer field, advancing us through to the
national championship game.
We started the day off with a breakfast at 8:30, and
then rested before our practice at 10.
Following practice we went to Subway, and ate back at
the hotel. We
rested again until 2:15, when we went to see the movie Wedding
Crashers. After
the movie we went to dinner at Macaroni Grill, which finished
up around 7. From
there we went to our team meeting back at the hotel, where we
talked strategy and watched film.
After the meeting, we all went to bed because of our
early game.

Final Day of Preliminary Round Matches
|
|
By: Pasquale and Chris
Today was a great day for the team. We started the day off
with a hard fought win over Vardar which was a must win for
the lads. Then we headed back to the hotel and met a peculiar
young man who goes by the name Rodrigo. He gave us many laughs
throughout.
The day. Then we headed off to UNO’s, a local
restaurant, which was just fantastic. Afterwards, we came back
to the hotel for some much needed rest. We later got together
in Bang’s room and watched a show about baboons on the
national geographic channel. The channel was a favorite
throughout the week. We
then went to our 18’s match, which ended up getting delayed
for about 2 ½ hours due to heavy downpours.
After the match, we arrived back at the hotel just
after midnight, and went to bed.

Second Day of Games
|
|
By: Zach and Greg
Last night we all had a great time eating
at Bahama Breeze. At dinner we celebrated our goalie, Miguel
Rosales’ seventeenth birthday. I would imagine he feels
pretty excited about starting out the tournament on a high
note, after our victory on his birthday.
Our game today is not until 7 tonight so we got the
chance to sleep in a little bit. Well, at least 3 hours later
until 8:30. We went to Village Inn for a good breakfast where
our waiter is for sure unique, but still a pretty cool guy.
Good news travels fast, at Village Inn we found out that our
eighteens had beat the Region two champions, Milwaukee. After
we got back from breakfast, we walked into our hotel to find
the downstairs completely chaotic, due to the Star Power dance
competition that is also going on. Most kids went back to
their rooms to take showers since we hadn’t had time before
breakfast to take one. Now we are just going to hang out at
the hotel for a while. We will go for a little jog and
stretch, and watch our game tape from yesterday’s game, but
that’s about the extent of our activity until our game. With
all of the free time we have on our hands before our game, we
are all definitely being smart about it, and staying off our
feet, making sure to get rested up before tonight’s game
against the number one ranked team in the nation, the Dallas
Texans. Maybe we will also check out some dances at the dance
competition that’s going on in our hotel too, this place is
huge.

First Day of Games
|
|
By: Collin and Dion
Today our team began our quest for greatness with
our first game against the Region I champions. Our team did not start the way that we wanted to and we found
ourselves being dominated the first 35 minutes of the game.
Luckily we scored a goal against the run of play.
Brendan McDaniel took the ball down the right side and
then fired a laser, which Dion Bubar-hall placed into the far
corner. We then added to our advantage 3 minutes later off of
a beautifully placed corner kick that found the head of an
unmarked Greg Rouse and then the back of the net.
We went into halftime 2 goals up despite being
outplayed most of the first half.
In the second half Kris Banghart finished off a
powerful run after he received a perfectly placed ball from
Collin Audley. Seth
Tamminga then finished the scoring in the final minutes of
play when his shot deflected off of a defender and went into
the top corner of the goal.
We started the tournament exactly the way we wanted to
despite the slow start. After
the game we ate at Village Inn.
Now we have a huge amount of time to rest up before our
next game which every player is taking advantage of.
We need to be fully rested because tomorrow we play the
number one ranked team in the country from Dallas, Texas.
The mood is very calm and relaxed as we look forward to
this next game.

Introductory Day
|
|
By: Sam
Today we were greeted with a very
prestigious and well deserved luncheon.
The anticipation of Nationals only grew with every
awaiting moment. The luncheon consisted of food, speeches, and
video of the Regional finals. The video arose a certain fire
in all the players to get out of our dress clothes and into
our cleats. But
before we could leave we listened to a very inspirational
speaker, the head coach for the Kansas City Wizards.
He told us that there are two key factors to success at
this level, one is having talent, which every team clearly
has, and two a little luck. The road for us has been filled
with luck. First we loose the final to Rush Nike, but due to
their actions after the game we end up representing Colorado
in the 2005 Regional Tournament. The first game of the
Regional Tournament we tie a good Hawaii team. We then regroup
after the game and win our Regional age group. The next step
from here is our first game tomorrow at 7:30 A.M. against New
York.

Although our team got to our hotel very
late last night from our long plane trip from Colorado, waking
up early again this morning was not as difficult as it
generally is. Today was the start of our National Tournament.
Although there were no games played today, we met with the
rest of the regional champions from around the country at the
luncheon. Everyone was already itching to get onto the pitch
at Disney’s Wide World of Sports and to say the least,
soccer speeches and highlights from each regional tournament
made the anticipation even greater. After the luncheon, we had
a couple of hours to hang out and take it easy in our hotel
rooms before training in the afternoon and dinner after that.
It is time to go to bed now but I am not sure how well my
roommate and I and the rest of our team for that matter will
sleep. This is worse than Christmas Eve, nobody
will be able to sleep I’m sure.

Arrival Day
|
|
By: Kyle and Seth
Today will live
in infamy. We
left a fellow soldier behind.
Byron Cephers, could not make the flight because the
standby system failed. Currently
we are sitting on a very full flight.
The lights are dimmed down low and people are dozing
off one by one. I,
Kyle “Spanky” Varvil cannot fall asleep.
Every person near me is asleep and yet I cannot do it.
I guess I am nervous about our future games.
I can’t take my mind off of them.
I am very anxious to get off the plane and into our
hotel so we can get some rest. We have an early training
session and then the luncheon, which we had to bring all our
nice clothes for. We have been making conversation with some
people around us and that has kept us entertained for quite
awhile, which is nice. By the way, Seth Tamminga is also
writing this. It’s really late and we are signing off to
try, once more to gain some rest. So until later, this is
Spanky and Seth saying goodnight.

By: Aric Today has been a long day, filled with long travel
lines, full plane flights, and tired teammates.
Our plane was supposed to leave Denver at 6:25, but due
to engine problems, we sat in the hot, recirculated air
airplane, but sat waiting for repairs.
After a little over 30 minutes, we got the clear to
take off, but sat again on the runway in a line to actually
leave. Once
airborne, everyone settled into their seats, some watching the
in flight movie, while others listened to music or played
their PSP’s. Some
were fortunate enough to meet two girls from Texas to talk
with, which allowed their flight to pass a little quicker.
Everyone is excited to get to Orlando, and experience
the much anticipated feeling and atmosphere of Nationals. After we took off, our plane got a route change which allowed
for more time on the plane, but luckily, even through the
anticipation, we arrived in Orlando and are ready and excited
to compete for the National title.
