Concludes at the US Youth Soccer National Championships |
ORLANDO, FL (July 22, 2004) -The US Youth Soccer National Championships continued today
at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex with evening matches in the Under-15 group.
Friday's games will be the last preliminary round matches and will decide the Championship
pairings for Sunday, July 25.
The Mustang Blast (California North) advance to the Championship match in the Under-15
Girls division with a 2-0 record on the tournament. The Mustangs rallied from a 2-goal
deficit against the Michigan Hawks, courtesy of Lindsay Pierce's go-ahead goal in extra
minutes. The Mustang Blast are four-time Far West Regional Champions, but have yet to win
a US Youth Soccer National Championship.
"It means a whole lot for everyone," said Pierce. "We've gone this far
and we might as well win it."
In the rest of the Girls Under-15 action, the PDA Fury (New Jersey) and Dallas Texans
'89 Red (North Texas) played to a 0-0 stalemate.
Entering tonight's matches each Under-15 Boys team had earned one point. Tonight, the
Arsenal FC (California South) downed the Chicago Magic (Illinois) 4-2, while Solar '89
shutout Bethesda United (Maryland) 2-0.
Tomorrow's matches begin at 7:30 and 9:00 with action in Under-17 and Under-14 Girls
group. The Under-19 division will play at 9:30 am, with an Under-14 Boys match kicking off
at 10:30 am. The final matches of the morning, featuring the Under-16 group will begin at
11:30 am.
The evening matches will kick-off at 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm.
The 2004 US Youth Soccer National Championship Series, providing approximately 124,000
players on 7,200 teams from US Youth Soccer's 55 State Associations the opportunity to
showcase their soccer skills against the best competition in the nation while emphasizing
teamwork, discipline and fair play, is the country's most prestigious national youth
soccer tournament. The US Youth Soccer National Championships cap a yearlong series of
competitions for boys and girls teams in multiple age brackets.
