Round Play Continues US Youth Soccer National Championships |
ORLANDO, FL (July 21, 2004) - The US Youth Soccer National Championships continued this
morning at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex, with action in the Under-18 and Under-17
divisions.
Weston Under-17 Boys, from host state Florida, downed the Albertson Red Storm Clash
(Eastern New York) 3-1. Albertson rallied back from a one goal deficit before Weston found
the back of the net twice at the 73- and 92- minute marks.
"Yesterday, they had the first game jitters with their first appearance at the US
Youth Soccer National Championships," said Weston Head Coach Alvin James.
"Today, the sun was out and we were clicking on all cylinders. We like our chances in
the Florida sun, I think the heat is to our advantage."
The 2003 US Youth Soccer National Runner-Up Bethesda Excel (Maryland) is 2-0 heading
into the final day of Under-17 Girls preliminary round play. Bethesda downed the Dallas
Texans 87 Red (North Texas) 3-1 this morning.
After a 2-0 win over Busch SC (Missouri), the Under-18 Boys Sereno '86 White (Arizona)
are also 2-0 in the tournament and sit in good position going into the final preliminary
round game against the Texans 85/86 (South Texas) on Friday, July 23.
Play resumes tonight at 6:30 pm with action in the Under-16 Boys group.
The 2004 US Youth Soccer National Championship Series, providing approximately 124,000
players on 7,200 teams from US Youth Soccer's 55 State Associations the opportunity to
showcase their soccer skills against the best competition in the nation while emphasizing
teamwork, discipline and fair play, is the country's most prestigious national youth
soccer tournament. The US Youth Soccer National Championships cap a yearlong series of
competitions for boys and girls teams in multiple age brackets.
